Applications are available now for the 2012 Volunteer of the Year awards. The awards honor those in our community who give selflessly of themselves to make life better for others.
 
Awards will be presented in four categories:
  • Humanitarian
  • Service to Youth/Education
  • Senior Citizen
  • Young Citizen
 
Please make sure to read the instuctions on the form and include all the necessary support materials. The deadline is February 24 at 5pm.

VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR GUIDELINES

Volunteer: A person who gives service and time willingly and is committed to his or her volunteer task; who receives no compensation other than gas/mileage expenses directly related to he volunteer task.

Criteria: Any individual who contributes to the Norman community through volunteer service may be nominated. These awards are designed for volunteers who have a history of unselfish, unrecognized service, as well as those volunteers who may be more visable. The nominee's volunteer activity can be in a structed or unstructed setting, but must be performed with no compensation other than reimbursement for expenses incurred.

Selection: United Way of Norman appoints a Selection Committee, representative of the community. Committee members read over every nomination form individually then meet together as a group to discuss and decide on recipients. All decisions of the Selection Committee are final. In addition to the standards mentioned above, committee members use the following criteria to evaluate each nomination:
  • Scope of Responsibility
  • Scope of Impact
  • Accomplishments and/or contributions
  • Demonstration of Character

2011 VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR WINNERS 

Congratulations to our 2011 Volunteer of the Year winners! The 2011 VOY recipients were Richa Barnes (Civic), Krystal Harrington (Young Citizen), Mike Northcutt (Senior Citizen), Annette Brown (Humanitarian) and Amanda & Bob Nairn (Service to Youth/Education).
