United Way of Norman funds 40 programs at 27 agencies in the Norman Area. These programs are divided among four Impact Areas: Basic Needs, Successful Children & Youth, Strong & Safe Individuals & Families and Seniors & Persons with Disabilities. These are our funded partners through June 2012.
BASIC NEEDS
American Red Cross
Emergency Response- $55,000
Provides relief to victims of disasters, supplying basic needs and addressing mental health needs
Service to Armed Forces- $3,000
Links members of the U.S. Armed Forces with their families during a crisis and provides emergency financial assistance to those individuals.

Central Oklahoma Community Action Agency
Rent & Mortgage Assistance- $25,000
Provides rent and mortgage assistance to prevent imminent homelessness. This program funds deposits, which would not happen without money from United Way of Norman, due to federal grant restrictions.

Food & Shelter for Friends
Food & Outreach- $60,050
Provides hot meals, laundry facilities and showers to economically disadvantaged persons. Also equipped with phone and internet access to assist with employment and housing searches.
Emergency Transportation- $13,000
Provides transportation assistance to individuals and families who are in transition or crisis.

Salvation Army
Emergency Services- $22,700
Provides emergency shelter. A day shelter is also available, which provides a point of entry for persons wanting to get off the streets and back on track.
Social Services- $25,000
Offers a soup kitchen, food pantry, clothing assistance, utility assistance, community referrals and case management. It also provides payment for birth certificates, identification, and lice treatment.

Women's Resource Center
Family Violence Shelter- $43,900
Shelter is for people impacted by domestic violence. Provides meals, clothing, counseling, support and referral information.
Rape Crisis Center- $25,000
Facility that meets all the needs of rape victims in one place.

Big Brothers Big Sisters
Mentoring- $62,000
Provides one-on-one positive adult role models through a community-based and school-based mentoring program
Amachi- $8,000
A one-on-one mentoring program for children with an incarcerated parent. The program’s goal is to break the intergenerational cycle of crime and incarceration and give an underserved population the chance to reach their potential.

Comprehensve Youth Development- $2,500
Program will target elementary schools that qualify for low-income federal assistance, to give the Boy Scout opportunity to boys that might not otherwise have access.

A new pilot program that will provide a Girl Scout Leadership internship opportunity for girls through their service as an assistant leader and mentor to local troops. Each intern receives leadership training, hands-on experience and the opportunity to mentor younger Girl Scouts.
